He was very strong in ne-waza.
He undergo hard drill training from Japanese trainer Hiromi Tomita before 1972 Olympic Games.
Result of this training was silver medal.
He did not won more big medals because of problems with knees (perhaps result of that hard drill).
After retirement he became trainer.
He spent 3 years as trainer in Göteborg, Sweden and helped upgrade Swedish judo into higher level.
He came back in 1987.
His charge Paweł Nastula became olympic champion in '90.
