Bio

He was born in Moscow.

He was one of the few elite slavic judoka (Russian national judo team is often occupied by other ethincs).

He is one of the best heavyweighter of all time.

In late of his career he was trained by Enzio Gamba.

He is married and has 5 children.

Career and Style

Mikhaylin was tall, wellbuilt and powerfull judo player.

He owned some technical skills (very good ashi-waza) but his judo in many way looked like sambo which is very similar sport to judo. He has trained with sambists.<ref>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77R1s51DZT8</ref>

In his toplevel years (2001-2007) he represented Russia mainly in Openweight cathegory becase Heavyweight was occupied by his rival Tamerlan Tmenov. Tmenov was probably only problem of his very succesful career. In their mutual confrontation he always lost so he missed 3 Olympiads althought he had the quality to start there and even win a medal.

In 2004 he was trying Half-Heavyweight cathegory because of Olympiade but he failed.

In 2010 he was injuried.

Finally his time was came in 2012 at London Olympic Games but he was already veteran (33 years) and against much younger and faster Frenchman he had no chance. He took silver medal.
