He was born in Haarlem.

He is from judo family. His father [[Cor van der Geest|Cor]] is judo coach and older brother [[Dennis van der Geest|Dennis]] was elite judo player.

Geest was nice stylish judo player with strong te-waza and ashi-waza but his career was affected by knee injuries. He suffered first tored ACL in spring 2000 and second during 2005 World Championships. Recovery of both injuries took almost a year no competiting. Because of that he did not like fighting against judokas who enjoyed leg grabbing.

In 2008 he struggled with [[Henk Grol]] for Olympic ticket and he lost. Just after that he decided ask for Belgian citizenships because he felt that against younger and talented Grol he will be always number two.

Bio

He was born in Haarlem.
