Bivol was powerful and stylish judoka. His judo technique was not good but he was able to do many techniques which were well done. His tachi-waza was good (goshi-waza and te-waza).

He almost got into final in 2004 Athens Olympic games. In semifinal match with Korean judoka in time 2:15 he turned Korean for ippon but the technique was so strange that referee just called wazari. It was combination of failed o-soto-gari and drop seoi-nage. Match continued and in few seconds Korean throw him for ippon. He then lost also match for bronze medal.
