He was born in Kutaisi what is second biggest city in Georgia.
  
*For long time he was in shadow of [[Zurab Zviadauri]]

*From 2005 he became number one in middleweight category in georgian team.

In beginning of his career he was in shadow of other judoplayers and his first big experience with big tournament was in 2005.
*He is very strong in newaza.
 
*He likes Kouchi gari technic.
 
*After winning Olympic gold medal in 2008 he decided retire but later change his mind and came back in half-heavyweight category because middleweight was already hard occupied by his friend [[Varlam Liparteliani]].
 
*After Tokyo Grand Slam 2011 was found in his blood stimulant drug (Anxiety) and he was banned for 3 months.
