Bio

He was born in Yongin what is city very close to capital city Seoul.

His trainer is Jeong Hun.

Career and Style

He was fighting in -81kg and for long time he was in shadow of another Korean judo stars.

In 2010 he finally got chance to start in World Championships when IJF increased quota for two judokas from a single country per cathegory. Unfortunately he lost in first rounds and he was thinking about retiring.

He came back in 2011 as Middleweighter (-90kg). In World Championships he unlucky lost match against Tiago Camillo by accumulating penalties in golden score.

For 2012 London Olympic Games he was chosen represent South Korea instead of young Gyu-Won I. He caught his chance for 100%. In final match he bet Cuban judoka and became the oldest gold medalist from men's judo tournament. He was 33 years old. During ceremony he showed respect to his trainer because he was who motivated him in continuation.

After this success he decided retire.

Song's judo was based on poerfull grips (kumikata). His Te-waza especially Seio-nagi was very dangerous because he was practising it on both sides.
