Career and Style
Camilo was wonderkid of Brazilian judo. At age of 16 he won 1998 World Junior Championships and other Youth tournaments but next season he suffred knee injury and missed whole season.
In 2000 he participated at famous Paris tournament where he surprised everybody by winning second place. The main idea why he started there was practising for 2000 World Junior Championships but after this success he took also part in Brazilian qualifiaction tournament for Olympic Games in Sydney. In final he upset Sebastian Pereira and qualified for the games.
At age of 18 he was fighting at 2000 Sydney Olympic Games where he somehow got into final. There he lost with Italian judoka and won silver medal. Camilo showed in tournament nice technical judo and his big advantage was that nobody couted with him. Only in final he probably realised where he is and what he can achieve. Maddaloni intuited it and dominated in the match.
After this success he took a rest and came back just for qualify to 2001 World Judo Championships but he failed. Then he suffered some kind of injury. He grew taller (cca 3cm) and increased weight. He moved from Lightweight (-73kg) to Half-Middleweight (-81kg). This ment that till 2004 he had no other big results. He fought mainly in Brazil in their competitons of clubs.
For 2004 Olympic season he had motivation at least defend silver medal but in Brazilian Olympic qualification just 2s before end he was penalised for pasivity and he lost with Flávio Canto. He felt hurt and final verdict was on court. Court upheld validity of the match and Camilo had to forgot defend silver medal at Olympic Games.<ref>http://fisiculturismo.com.br/forum/topic/35103-novato-na-areatiago-camilo-x-flavio-canto/</ref>
In 2007 he won World Championships title and also was voted the best judo player of the year.
In 2008 Beining Olympic Games he was top seed for gold but he lost quaterfinal match with Bischof and won only bronze medal.
Since 2009 he is fighting in Middleweight (-90kg) but did not achieve any big result althought he is couted as one of the best judo player in the world.
In 2012 he was very close to rare hattrick by winning Olympic medals from three diffrent weight categories.
Camilo is nice stylish judoka. He exceles in ashi-waza. He has very good timing and moves. His weak part is toughness. He is not able to fight over hard pain.
