Bio

His coach was Ağayar Axundzadə.

Career and Style

Azerbaijan head coach Axundzadə had no problem give chance to young judo players to start on big tournaments. Səlimov was of the those judokas. At age of 17-18 he was starting at 1999 European Championshis and won bronze medal.

In 2000 he was starting at Sydney Olympic Games. He had relatively easy pool. Not really big name from Asia or Europea there and this was maybe the problem... he saw himself already in semifinal. In his second match in duel with Canadian judoka he was thrown by uchi-mata for ippon just 14s after start. In repechage he got into bronze match but there French judo player showed more will for the bronze medal. He took 5th place.

Səlimov was well known in judo world for his pickups. Unfortunatelly his judo career was not long because in 2003 he suffered shoulder injury<ref>http://az.apa.az/news.php?id=47557</ref> and after recovery he did not get into the level where he was before. He underwent two operations of the shoulder during the time. Since 2004 (age 22) he did not attend any big tournament.

He was not determinated judo player and articles of those days say that against some opponents he had metal block.<ref>http://www.twoj.org/archives/2002/spring/spr02_euro2.html</ref> I think after recovery of his shoulder injury he had Iliadis block... fear to fight because do not injury again. Iliadis got over it but he did not.

In 2011 he started and won European Veteran Championships.
