Hwang was very tough fighter. He likes sutemi-waza and fighting on the ground (ne-waza) where he sometimes used not very fair moves and grips lead to serious injury of his opponent. Otherwise outside tatami he is very friendly and nice guy.

Hwang like most of the Korean judokas had to wait for his chance in nationa team.

Between 2003-2006 he was number one for middleweight category.

When he lost chance to start at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games he decided increase weight and fight in Half-Heavyweight category.

Hwang was very tough fighter. He likes sutemi-waza and fighting on the ground (ne-waza) where he sometimes used not very fair moves and grips lead to serious injury of his opponent. Otherwise outside tatami he is very friendly and nice guy.
