Career and Style
Mammadli was one of the wonderkid of European judo. He won European title at age of 18 and next year he got into final of World Championships.
The biggest moment in his judo career came in 2008 Bejing Olympic Games where he won gold medal. In final he upset Korean judoka who was favourit.
After the games he became celebrity in Azerbaijan. He was host in many tv shows. He did not compete for more than year. In that time he maried and underwent some kind of operation of injury leg.
He came back in 2010 but he changed category from Lightweight to Half-Middleweight.
Mammadli is powerful, aggresive (temperament) and nice stylish judoka. He likes mainly pickups and goshi-waza which are based on his powerful grips.
In 2012 London Olympics he was top favourit for final and one of the medal but he lost his first match against Canadian surprise of the tournament. Canadians know how to upset Azerbaijani. Some people perheps remember 2000 Sydney Olympic Games where Keith Morgan upset Rəsul Səlimov. Mammadli in match with Valois-Fortier missed something. The agression... the power and he looked very tired. Valois-Fortier were better that day.
