Bio

He was born in Dnipropetrovsk.

His coach is Daniel Volovich.

Career and Style

In 2000 he did not gain ticket at Olympic Games in Sydney. He missed only 1 point in ranking system.

He won European Championships 3 times and after his last win in 2007 he decided concentrate only at World Championships and Olympic Games where he always failed before.

At 2007 World Championships he unfortunatelly missed plane to Rio and lost some hours of acclimatization so first try was not success.<ref>http://www.ukrainejudo.com/index.php/news/646-grekov</ref>

In 2008 he started at his second Olympic Games in Beijing but he was upset in first round by a Venezulan judoka. After tournament it was quit clear that he has some kind of mental block against South American judokas who are always dangerous but find right apology is not easy.

In 2010 he almost passed his last mission (win world medal) but Məmmədov was against it. He took 5th place.

In 2012 he qualified at Olympic Games in London but Ukrainian Judo Federation nominated Roman Hontyuk.

Grekov was always ranked among the best European middleweighter. As judo player he had strong physical attributies. He has very good moves and nage-waza at all. He had excelent uchi-mata. His weak part was consistency. He did not like powerful judo. His opponents often practised sutemi-waza against him.
