Bio

Ilias Iliadis (Jarji Zviadauri) was born in Akhmeta, Georgia in 1986 but he was raised in moutain region called Khevsureti. He was very talented youth and in 2001 he won for Georgia as Jarji Zviadauri gold medal at EYOD (European Youth Olympic Days) in Murcia, Spain<ref>http://www.judowattens.at/archiv/landesliga/Murnica%202001.htm</ref>.

After this success Zviadauri was contacted by Nikos Iliadis who lived in Greece. Nobody really knows who contacted him and other Georgian youths first but Nikos Iliadis played for sure main role because he speaks Georgian.

During '90 there was no judo in Greece. This was changed after getting opportunity to organize Olympic Games in Athens. Greece needed some solid contestants in judo but where to take them.

Jarji Zviadauri came to Greece in 2002. He was 15 years old<ref>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdlqqlmDa6o</ref>. He wanted get Greek citizenships but the immigrational politic of Greece that time said that getting citizenships is possible after living 3 years in the country. This ment that Zviadauri would get it in 2005. This was late because he wanted start at Olympic Games in 2004 Athens. The only exception of the rules were for example marriage with Greek citizen or if a Greek citizen adopt a child who is not older than 18 years old. In this case the foreigner get Greek citizenships very soon (3 months or something like that). So Nikos Iliadis adopted Jarji Zviadauri and he renamed him to Ilias Iliadis. Sometimes you can see the passport variant of his name Ilias of Nikos Iliadis.

Many newspapers and other portals are telling his story in bad context and make rumours between fans. He was not coming to Greece when he was 12 (1999) like say for example this article<ref>http://www.athensnews.gr/issue/13408/23217</ref> and there are much more such sources. They are probably mixing two diffrent stories. Ilias Iliadis was not only judoka who was adopted by Nikos Iliadis and his brothers. There are many exGeorgian judokas with surname Iliadis. In beginning of 21th century there was another Greek judoka with name Ilias Iliadis (1984). So guy who was coming in 1999 was probably this Ilias Iliadis (1984). Anyway it was very hard to distinguish who is who by result list. That's why server judoninside.com have mixed results of both judokas together and sports-reference.com for long years had Ilias Iliadis (1986) with birthdate 1984.

Ilias Iliadis has big family (Zviadauri family) in Georgia. One of his cousin is Zurab Zviadauri, Georgian Olympic champion from 2004 Athens in judo. However both cousins don't talk witch each other for years. Zurab Zviadauri said in interview<ref>http://geo.ambebi.ge//politika/56686-zurab-zviadauri-qjarji-zviadauri-chemthvis-mkvdaria.html</ref> that he won't hear anything about Iliadis because for him he is death.

Ilias Iliadis is married. He lives in Athens but he spends most of his time in Georgia because of training (sparring). He is also member of German Bundesliga club TSV Abensberg.

If Iliadis be a American his story would be for sure filmed or at least medial known. Nobody truly understand reason why he did it. Why he moved to Greece and changed his name. What was behind it? What his biological parents are saying about it? His real father was in Athens during his victory. How much money they got or was it just because of Olympic Games? How he call himself... Ilias or Jarji (other variant of name Giorgi (Georg))? Jarji Zviadauri would be star in Georgian judo team but under Georgian flag he won't start in 2004 Athens Olympic Games or maybe yes but nobody (even him) could not expect in 2002 how strong he will be in two years. Georgia have lot of talented youths but only few of them are becoming stars. Lot of them just don't get chance and are forgotten because they are not in right moment on right place.

Career and Style

Iliadis is very dynamic and stylish judoka that's why he is so popular around the world. His goshi-waza techniques are phenomenal. All his tachi-waza techniques are great. He has very powerful grips (kumikata). This is also his weaker part because when he can not catch opponent how he want he is in trouble.

Iliadis career goes upside down. He blow up very fast in 2004 winning Olympic gold medal at age of 18 (17.8) but after this his career goes slowly down till 2008. In Olympic year he had problems with knee and problems were still returning. In 2009 it looked like his career is over. He was fear to fight because he was still thinking on the knee.

In 2010 he came back in same style like in beggining of his career. Like he said it was result of changing his training system and he for sure consulted his fears of injury with psychologists.
